SELF-EMPLOYMENT
.
On this page, I’ll explain the key points you need to know about setting up your own parkour business as a coach, both in Germany and in Spain.
.
Germany
In Germany, it’s quite easy to set up a small business.
You register it with the local authority, fill in a form on the spot and pay between €15 and €60 for the registration.
Then you have to wait a month until you receive the documents in the post.
In the meantime, however, you can already start giving lessons and making other preparations.
Make your business visible online. Your own website, Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Look for places you might not normally use as an adult (playgrounds, parks, etc.)
Draw up a business plan
Take out insurance
Get some business cards and advertise
.
Now you have your first students in your classes and are earning your first income.
In Germany, you should definitely keep invoices; it takes a bit of effort, but the authorities want to know the breakdown of your income.
Here, for example, you can issue monthly invoices, or even every two months.
You should also keep a simplified income statement. This is a table in which you record your income and expenditure over the course of a year. This must be attached as an appendix to your tax return.
At the end of the year, you prepare your tax return. Income, expenditure, insurance costs, travel expenses, etc.
As we are self-employed, we can only do this ourselves or through a private tax adviser.
It’s relatively straightforward with the WISO tax software. I’ve learnt more about tax returns every year. Get some help the first time, and after that you’ll be able to do it on your own.
Under Section 11(1) of the Trade Tax Act (GewStG), as a small business you can earn up to €24,500 tax-free. Anything above that amount is then subject to tax.
